We are delighted to announce the launch of scoutAsia's new AI-powered news monitoring feature: Scout AI.
Staying on top of the news can be a difficult and time consuming task in a world overloaded with information. Our new "scout AI" tool is designed to do this work for you, by reading thousands of news articles a day on your behalf -- tracking companies and trends you care about.
Our system will then send you a daily email alert with the results, so that you will remain on top of developments and never miss a signal again.
The difference between the "Scout AI" engines and our existing "Saved Searches" and "Target Lists" lies in the way they search our news database. The latter, like Google, Factiva and most conventional search engines are based on keywords. The user selects and inputs the keywords and the search engine produces the results. This method is often very accurate and we would encourage you to continue to utilise Saved Searches and Target Lists, especially when you want to follow very specific topics.
The drawback with keyword search, however, is that topics develop, language changes and new buzzwords evolve. A few years ago, nobody used "unicorn" to describe a private start-up with a billion dollar valuation. But unless users regularly update their keyword searches and add new terms, the previously saved search will become less effective over time.
This is where semantic search has the advantage. Once the AI engine behind a particular topic is trained, it relies on context to keep learning, developing and refining its searches. That means it will select articles that it judges to be relevant to the topic you have selected -- even if they do not contain any of the obvious keywords.
We have developed two types of scout AIs. Already live in our system are 10 standard Scout AI topics, including: "mergers & acquisitions", "management change", "corruption/fraud", "political developments" and "monetary policy". These are deliberately broad themes that we believe many of our customers will wish to monitor. The 10 have been pre-trained and already select articles with an accuracy of 99-83% depending on the topic. We have more of these in development and will release them for everyone to use as soon as they are good enough.
Even better, clients (though not trialists) can immediately set up and train their own, customised Scout AI topics to get unique results on any theme or trend they choose. The initial training, which involves selecting 10 relevant and 10 non-relevant articles for each Scout AI should only take a few minutes. Thereafter, we will help you improve the accuracy of your Scout AI through further training and we have recruited a team in Singapore to do just that.
Even so, it is a good idea to pick a topic that is broad enough so that there are several hundred relevant articles in our database of 2.5m articles, otherwise it can take too long to get the accuracy to an acceptable level. And because of capacity constraints at our human training team, we have to limit each individual user to 3 custom Scout AIs for now.
To get started, please just log on to scoutAsia and click the "Scout AI" tag in the header bar. Once you have chosen the topics you are interested in, you can receive the search results either in our app or via a daily email alert (with clickable links). We are already working on making our alerts realtime for sensitive topics.
I hope you find this new feature useful and also that you have some fun training your personal scout AIs.
